When I first joined the youth mentorship program at Coaches of Influence Foundation, I felt like an outsider. I walked into a room unsure of myself, questioning if I belonged, and wondering if my voice would matter. I was surrounded by people who appeared to look, sound and think differently. It was both inspiring and overwhelming.
But as the weeks passed, something shifted. Interacting with them, I discovered strength behind soft voices and courage in quiet resilience. Slowly, I found the confidence to open up and when I did, I was welcomed with acceptance instead of judgment.
I began to understand the power of diversity not just in culture or background, but in thought, experience, and dreams. What once made us appear different in my view, now connected us. Each of us brought something unique, and together we have created something stronger than we could have ever imagined.
This journey didn't just teach me leadership or other skills, it also gave me a sense of belonging. I am constantly reminded that no matter where I come from, I have something valuable to offer. I now walk with confidence, purpose, and a deeper respect for the voices around me.
